Finding your LPP assets without an intermediary: the official route, explained.
An official, free search exists. Nobody should hide that from you — here is how it works, what it covers, and when it is all you need.
What the 2nd Pillar Central Office does
The 2nd Pillar Central Office, attached to the LPP Guarantee Fund in Bern, matches your personal data against the assets reported by pension institutions. When there is a match, it informs you: you then know which institution holds assets in your name.
The request is free and informal. The official form is available online and for download, in six languages — German, French, Italian, English, Portuguese and Spanish.
Open the official form (LPP Guarantee Fund)What the official route does not do
- It tells you where your assets are — not how much. Amounts are not part of the Central Office's answer.
- It stops at the location. It is then up to you to write to each institution, request each statement, and fill in the transfer or withdrawal forms, fund by fund.
- It consolidates nothing. With assets in several funds, each file follows its own pace and its own requirements.
From experience — our team's estimate, not a statistic — someone doing everything alone with assets in four funds needs four to five months. Through Pillarum, it is the same weeks of official waiting, then about two minutes for the rest.
You can do it yourself.
But at what cost in time?
The procedures are public. It's legal and possible to do it alone. Here is what that means in practice.
When the official route is enough
- You already know which fund or foundation holds your assets: write to it directly, no search needed.
- You had only one or two Swiss employers and your contact details are up to date with their fund.
- You are comfortable with administrative steps and time is not pressing.
In those cases, take the official route: it is well designed, and it is free.
What to honestly expect
Three in four contactless vested-benefits accounts hold less than 5,000 francs — some far more (Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution, end of 2025). Either way, knowing beats not knowing: even with nothing found, you leave with an official attestation.
And if you would rather delegate
One single mandate, ~1,500 institutions queried, amounts requested fund by fund, a final report. Free for individuals — Pillarum is funded by its professional version, and an optional paid follow-up exists afterwards.
